The Concept

A Southbank Centre takeover pushing gayageum to its limits. Part of K-Music 2019 and produced by the Korean Cultural Centre UK. We filmed interviews with the artists, the performance from multiple angles, and audience reactions after the show.

The Execution

The night opened with a British debut of female gayageum trio Hey String, who pushed beyond the limitations of traditional performance in a full force of interplaying melodies and rhythms that created enthralling soundscapes.

Kyungso Park, a composer and zither-like gayageum performer returned with her new band, SB Circle. Combining jazz, electronic and traditional Korean music with fellow established musicians Shin Hyunpil (saxophone, keys), Seo Young-do (bass) and Christian Moran (drums) in a myriad of folk, improvisation and filmic music. Their debut album release is entitled Topology.
